Welcome to My New Website

Friday August 4, 2006

Welcome to my redesigned website. I’ve been working with Jet A Studio on this site for nearly a year.

I designed my first website back in 2002. Back then, I picked up a couple books on html and Photoshop and went to work. However, making a really good website that’s easy to navigate takes a lot of work and talent … not to mention some awesome design skills.

The first of these photos were taken when I was in high school and that was back in the late 80s. I’ve shot quite a few photos since then. When I started I just wanted to be a photographer and that still pretty much what I want to be. But, as you know it costs money to do this stuff … but I’ve decided not to show my newspapers and commercial photography on this site.

It has probably actually taken me four or five years just to edit the personal work on this site (it takes forever to digitally clone away dust from scanned black and white negatives too). I started going through and scanning my old photos back in the spring of 2001 when I started putting some of them in a stock agency. As I edited year of work, I started seeing patterns and discovered most of my work had no place in either a stock agency or a typical art gallery.

I have new photographs on this site as well. I started documenting the local music and punk scene where I live and I’ve recently created a series of architectural landscapes as source images for video art I’ve been doing.

Besides, all this, I’ve also begun making films and I’m in postproduction on two films. One film is about poetry and politics. The other is a documentary about the DIY Plan-It-X fest that took place here. There are still images from both projects on this site and I am busily figuring out how to make a film using still and not make it look like a slide show. Perhaps that discussion is for another post thought. I think for this journal I’m going to discuss my photography, art by other people and culture in general. We’ll see how it goes.

Take a look around my new site and please tell me what you think.
